Approval is a documents race: bring the whole file at once
The personal loan document set is the ordered bundle — identity, income proof, employment confirmation, account statements — a lender must see before it decides.
Banks decide on documents, not interviews. The complete set, assembled once in the right order, is the difference between a 3-day approval and a 3-week query loop.

The core set, every applicant
NRIC (both sides), latest 3 months' payslips, latest 6 months' bank statements showing the salary credit loop, EPF statement (the latest, showing employer contributions matching the payslips), and the employment confirmation letter if under probation. The EPF-payslip match is the most common silent checker: declared RM5,000 with EPF contributions on RM4,200 invites a query about the difference.
If you earn allowances, commission or overtime
Fixed allowances: add the employment letter stating the allowance and its permanence. Variable pay: 3 to 6 months of payslips so the bank averages it, plus an explanation of any spike month. The bank will haircut variable income by policy, often 50% or more; model your DSR on the haircut figure, not the best month, before applying.
If self-employed or a sole proprietor
Latest Form B or BE tax submission with receipt, 6 to 12 months of business bank statements, SSM business profile, and where relevant the latest management accounts. Banks lend on verified flow: statements that show consistent credits beat declarations. If your accounts are untidy, six months of cleaning before applying is faster than three query cycles after.
The four reasons files bounce
One: statements missing or screenshots instead of full-month PDFs with the bank's header. Two: name mismatches after marriage or IC renewal; bring the supporting document. Three: commitments visible in statements but not declared in the application. Four: unsigned or undated forms. Each is a 1-to-2-week round trip; all four together is a month, and enquiry records age badly.
Assembly order that works
Day 1: pull CCRIS and CTOS, verify every line. Day 2: settle or annotate anything odd with evidence. Day 3: assemble the pack per your employment type above, PDFs, named files, one folder. Day 4: compute your own DSR and write the one-paragraph explanation of any variable income or past arrears. Day 5: apply to one bank; hold the second application 30 days unless the first is declined with a fixable reason. This mirrors the 30-day rejection recovery discipline, applied before the rejection.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a personal loan without payslips?
Yes, if self-employed or cash-paid: banks then rely on tax filings, bank statements showing regular credits, and EPF voluntary contributions where present. Expect tighter scrutiny and possibly a lower quantum.
How far back must bank statements go?
Typically the latest 3 to 6 months, full-month PDFs with the bank header. Screenshots and partial months are the most common bounced document.
Do banks verify EPF contributions against salary?
Yes. The contribution figure is a silent cross-check of declared income; a large mismatch invites questions before approval.
